Kristie Bennett hit a three-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead Bellevue to a wild 7-6 win over Mercer Island in the first round of the KingCo 3A playoffs on Thursday at Hartman Park.
The Wolverines were down to their last out when Amelia Beardsley walked and Audrey Souders singled. That set the stage for Bennett, who homered on a 3-2 count.
The victory earned Bellevue a spot in the SeaKing district playoffs.
The Wolverines face No. 1 seed Mount Si at 2 p.m. Friday as the KingCo playoffs continue at Hartman Park.

Bellevue Wolverines Varsity defeats Mercer Island after late game three-run blast, 7-6
Bellevue Wolverines Varsity and Mercer Island passed the lead back and forth three times on Thursday at Hartman Park, Redmond, but in the end Bellevue Wolverines Varsity pulled out a 7-6 win in seven innings over Mercer Island.
Bellevue Wolverines Varsity pulled out the win thanks to a strong seventh inning. Bellevue Wolverines Varsity went up for good on a three-run home run by Kristie Bennett off Morgan Peyou, scoring Amelia Beardsley and Audrey Souders.
Kristie racked up three RBIs on one hit for Bellevue Wolverines Varsity.
Dejah Rogers recorded the win for Bellevue Wolverines Varsity even though she allowed six runs over seven innings. She struck out four, walked three and surrendered 10 hits.
Morgan couldn’t get it done in the circle for Mercer Island, taking a loss. She allowed seven runs in 6 2/3 innings, walked five and struck out four.
Bellevue Wolverines Varsity jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. A double by Dejah, bringing home Madi George started the inning off. The scoreboard lit up again for Bellevue Wolverines Varsity when Rogers scored on an RBI single by Audrey.
Bellevue Wolverines Varsity got one-run rallies in the third inning and the fourth. In the third, Bellevue Wolverines Varsity scored on an RBI single by Dejah, scoring Madi.
Mercer Island scored three runs in the fifth inning, and then followed it up with three more in the seventh. In the fifth, Mercer Island scored on a two-run triple by Morgan, bringing home Madison Nimmo and Shaune Lam.
It didn’t take long for Bellevue Wolverines Varsity to respond as it scored three runs of its own in the seventh.
